Who Pays for Adjoining Fences?

Different Types of Fencing: Pros and Cons

Choosing a fence can be overwhelming, especially if it's your first time buying one. The market offers different types of fencing, and each one has its own set of pros and cons. Which one should you choose? The optimal choice for fencing may vary based on your specific requirements, financial considerations and the architectural style of your property. Explore some of the most widely used fencing options, highlighting their respective benefits and drawbacks by reading below.

Timber Fencing

Timber fencing is a timeless classic and is highly sought after for its aesthetic appeal. It's versatile and can be customised according to your preferred style and size. Plus, it is a more affordable option than other fencing types. However, it does require regular maintenance, such as sanding and staining. Timber fencing is also susceptible to rot, decay and pest damage.

PVC Fencing

If you're looking for low-maintenance fencing, PVC is the way to go. It is weather-resistant, does not require painting or sealing and provides a clean and modern look. However, it is not suitable for high-impact sports or activities as it can easily crack or chip with strong impact.

Aluminium Fencing

Aluminium fencing has gained popularity among homeowners seeking both durability and elegance in their fences. It's rust-free, does not require painting or staining and is resistant to harsh weather conditions. However, it is not suitable for pets or children as it is not entirely opaque and may not keep them inside your property.

Chain Link Fencing

Chain link fencing is a cost-effective, low-maintenance option that provides security for your property. It's also durable and can withstand various weather conditions. On the downside, it offers minimal privacy and can be unsightly.

Wrought Iron Fencing

Wrought iron fencing, with its intricate designs and timeless appeal, is a beautiful and classic option that not only enhances the aesthetic value but also adds a touch of elegance to your property. Additionally, it offers a high level of security, keeping your home safe and giving you peace of mind. The dense construction of the iron bars ensures utmost privacy, creating a personal sanctuary within your outdoor space. However, it's important to note that while wrought iron fencing boasts these exceptional benefits, it is also the most expensive option available in the market, and professional installation is required to ensure its proper and secure placement.

In summary, selecting an appropriate fencing type necessitates a thoughtful evaluation of various factors, including personal preferences, financial considerations and the architectural style of your property. Each type of fencing has its own set of pros and cons that you should take into account before making a final decision. Hopefully, this article has given you a better understanding of the options available so that you can choose the best type of fencing for your needs.

About Me

Who Pays for Adjoining Fences?

Hi, my name is Mark, welcome to my blog! As a new home owner, I’m learning a lot about the responsibilities of owning a property. Recently, my neighbour popped around and told me he wanted to put up a new fence between our gardens. My first reaction was that he should just go for it, but then he told me that I had to share the costs as we share responsibility for the fence. Before I agreed to the work (and to pay for it), I did some research and talked to a guy I know who works for a fencing contractor. I learned a lot about shared responsibility and rights with adjoining fences, so I started this blog to pass on what I’ve learned to other people who might be faced with a fencing project with a neighbour for the first time.
